Aug  Since the two last rounds of the World Championship are being cancelled it all came down to the last race in France with a 15 points difference on runner up Chiara Fontanesi. With extremely wet weather conditions on Saturday, it was Steffi who won her qualifing race. During her first practice session, she felt very strong and showed some good speed on the track. Stephanie’s scored a second fastest time, so we needed to change some things on the bike to get a better feeling. This resulted in the fasted lap time in the second practise session.
Qualification race After taking the holeshot it was Laier in the lead. Fontanesi could keep her rhythm for 4 laps but then it was Steffi who pulled away and finished with a first moto victory. Sunday Race 1: Steffi was leading into the first corner and tried to pull away. However she did not want to take any risk and openend door for Fontanensi.Steffi would try to continue her pace to finish second. At that moment there was a nice battle for 3th place with Kane and Papenmeier. Kane got a technical problem during that battle which resulted in a third place for Papenmeier. Fontanesi would win, Steffi second and Larissa in third. Sunday Race 2: Steffi took again the holeshot. However Chiara really wanted to win and took over the lead. She immediately tried to pull away from Steffi. However Steffi did hold on. She didn’t want to give this win to easy. But backmarkers made it difficult to win the race. Up to three times she did close the gab and every time a backmarker prevented her to take over Chiari. We really needed to be safe so after 17min of racing we decided to get it home safe on second place! It would be enough to be the new world champion. Steffi Laier: "I had a very good feeling on the bike on Saturday and came here to bring the title home. I didn’t want to go into battle because I was scared something would happen and it all would be lost. Because of that I am happy with my 2x second places. I am happy with this 4th title. I own the “RED PLATE”since 2009 (championship leader) and that makes me very proud! It was nice to battle Chaira, so I needed to fight for my wins! However I did win 5 on 7 GP’s and that gives a good feeling about this very strange year! I want to thank my sponsors; parents, friends and team manager for this unforgetable championship !" Team manager - Willy Van Thillo: “I am very pleased I could help get the title for Steffi and KTM. However it was a strange season with a lot of unexpected things and very hard work. I still hope to finish some international races with a win with Steffi.
