Sep  GAILDORF (Germany), 4 September 2011, Tommy Searle raced his heart out to take the overall win in Germany but all the focus and applause of the crowd was focussed on the home Championship winnner Ken Roczen. It's never easy to win in your home country and Ken Roczen almost fell foul of that curse in race 1 in Gaildorf as he crashed out of the second place early on. It was only a small mistake in the ruts created in the German clay but it was enough to hand the initiative to his team mate Herlings.
Herlings took up the challenge and pulled a gap on the pack before he made an almost carbon copy mistake himself. Herlings would never recover his pace and finished a disappointed 5th behind Paulin, Tonus and Tommy Searle as his team mate did what he needed to march ever closer to clinching the 2011 title. If race 1 was tense, it was nothing on race two as the top three in the championship fought tooth and nail for the race, overall and championship wins. Herlings had the legs for the first two thirds of the race as first Roczen and then Searle challenged him for the lead, with the German needing the win to seal the title at this stage, then a mistake first for Searle dropped him back to third before Roczen slid out of second chasing Herlings to leave the Dutchman unchallenged at the front. But without warning the Dutch KTM rider made an off camera mistake and Searle took over the lead and the would go on to take the overall win. However the most important fact was that with Herlings now in 2nd and Roczen in 3rd then the championship would go to the German for 2011. So Searle wins once again in 2011 but the pluadits have to go to Ken Rocen on sealing a great maiden World Championship win. In the European MX2 class it was a French victory for Roman Febvre who did all that was needed of him to seal the title with a solid ride to 7th in race one leaving him needing only a top 6 in race two no matter who won. The man that was doing all the winning was the revitalised and fully fit Dylan Ferrandis who stormed both races and won by comfortable margins in each, however the fact that he missed three rounds with a wrist injury meant he could do nothing to overhaul Febvre. In race two a heavy crash for the champion elect put his fans hearts in their mouths but the bike was relatively unscathed and despite dropping to fifth momentarily the young Frenchman was back in the fight for the podium and pushed right to the end to take an excellent and well deserved overall championship victory.
